Ever since i was a little girl playing house or dressing up my barbies for a fun convertible ride through the wetlands (car attached to my hand via a jump rope) I have always been fascinated in naming my children/dolls. I used to love love LOVE Crystal, it seemed like the most glamorous, feminine and beautiful name as a 7-9 yr old. Fortunately i grew out of that and into the next phase which was the Heather, Ashley (spelled Ashleigh of course) and i loved Brittany. That was around 7th-8th grade. In highschool i was a huge fan of Dawsons creek so i started like the girl names that were actually boy names inspired by "Joey" Dawson's love. I had dreams of naming a daughter Sam or Alex...and then slowly but surely i turned into a "surfer", being from california, it seems natural right? i mean i practically lived at the beach. HA. I loved the name Roxy and anything else beach themed. SO GROSS and so glad i have escaped all of those phases.
It just interests me so much, what people end up naming their kids. Do they make something up, Utah style? Stick to the bible classics? Its so interesting to me.
If i was to name my children today I would have a Stella, Bianca, Nina and Abe.
So where am i classified? Hispanic names with a little touch of US History?
What names do you like? I want to butcher them.

preisdential for sure, already have Jackson and Lincoln, hoping for an Elenor, or maybe a george, who knows maybe even hilary or barak....oh and i love stella so if i have a girl before you may be out of luck!
I love Stella too.. because it's my favorite perfume. For girls, I like Saydi (or Saydie) and Olivia. For boys, I like Carter. That's it.
Feel free to butcher any of these names:
Adrianna, Brielle, Gabrielle, Trinity, Kalina.
Aidan, Barrett, Bennett, Blake, Darby, Kaden, Keegan, Marcus, Peyton, Rhett, Roarke.
I love boy names. I want all boys. I hate girl names.
do i really need to butcher Trinity? I mean, that one butchers itself :)
love ya julie!
As long as you're looking to butcher names, Shauna I'll just say that it sounds like Abe is on the Christopher Columbus ship Nina and sprayed some Bianca breath spray into his mouth before calling for his wife, "STELLA!" Just kidding. I like those names okay, well, Abe in particular. It has been up for consideration in our family.
I heart Abe! You should hear the names in my class: Orion--like the constellation, Cleeo, Kayden, Brayden, Chayden, Trayden (not all in my class but all in 2nd grade) Some one get over the den names.
My nieces and nephews names are: Ruby, Henry, Noah, and Crew. Unique, but cute right? Boy names are the hardest for me, but Orion is out for sure!
-Becca
Have you seen a Streetcar Named Desire?? Stella, really??? Stella, stella STELLLLLLAAAAAA!!
Oh I love Samantha btw... I know it is not your pick for right now but I like the girly name that can seem boyish.
I really am liking Josiah for boys lately... but that could just be the bible name phenomenon.
You know you could go for cute little surfer names like Lakai, Maddox and Rafe....try to butcher those! haha I am not exposing my girl names, but you already know and LOVE them.
Seeing the names you loved growing up just further confirms what I've always suspected: You are a trashy girl from Ogden, Ut.
one name for me... Liv. it's a girl's name and i love it.
I had a '10,000 Baby Names' book when I was about 11. I loved looking up meanings and choosing my future kids' names. I can't say which of my circa 1994 names are effing disgusting for fear of offending someone who has used one of them for their child.
Circa 1994:
1. Sophie
2. Madison
3. McKenzie
4. Averie
I wasn't into boy names.
Circa 2008:
1. Dorothy June (going by June)
2. Evelyn Faun
3. Edith (AKA Edie)
4. Naomi Ruth (probably getting axed)
5. Jones
6. Jude (wavering)
7. Gray (too obvious maybe)
8. Sparkle Rainbow
If anyone says they sound like grandma names, I will take it as a compliment.
P.S. I now have 2 neices and one on the way. All of whom have/will have "bell" somewhere in their names (Savannah Belle, Violette Isabella, Isabella Jane). Sheesh.
P.P.S. Kaisa, just tell us your girl names.
sparkle rainbow sure sounds nice, whit.
-also you would LOVE kaisas names so i doubt she will tell you. they fit right in with yours. And also i love most if not all of yours. Just catch Kaisa at a weak time in her day and she will spill them to you. Im guessing thats what happened with me. I am a pretty lucky Lady.
Speaking of "Lady" i am really liking that name. Stella and Lady would be really good sisters.
And sorry if anyones name or childs name is Bella or Isabelle or Isabella. Barf barf barf. Its gonna be real cute when the entire US girl population under 5 all has the same exact name.
Shauna,
I just want to add my 2 cents again. In the past few years there has definitely been a rise in popularity of "old-fashioned" names, so let's not act like that's being unique. For the record, I am in that group--I love old-fashioned names, or at least names that are actually names, but I'm not pretending that that makes me special in any way. But I do think you can go too far. In your search to get the most old-fashioned name around so that you can show off to all of your friends that you are just the coolest person ever, you can end up with a name that in all actuality doesn't have any appeal at all, doesn't sound nice to the ears, and isn't a name that your child will appreciate having. So I guess that's what I'm here to say. Naming your children shouldn't be just some way that you can show off your coolness. Just pick a good name. What say ye?
Oh, and I took slight offense to my own name sounding so much like those Bella names you hate so much.
I love the name Cosette. I also love Rawson (its a family name and our first boy will probably be named that, so don't hate too bad). The only problem with Rawson is that it sort of sounds like a Utah made up name. It's totally legit. I also love Kaisa.
ella, i never said i hated the name bella or anything similiar. I mean for right now, EVERYONE is naming their child some form of the name. You have a great name and its unique and also classic and dont be offended.
Also i do agree with you, I think sometimes people need to realize naming their kids is kind of a big deal and not a big joke.
#1 Shauna you better not expose my girl names or I will shoot you...really I will.
# 2 You will know my girl names when I have a girl and you will love them.
# 3 My grandma's name is Dorothy Fern and Scott's mom's name is Charlotte Fern. CUTE
# 4 I better have a girl and if I don't I will give permission to you Shauna to take the names.
Kaisa,
Charlotte is on my list too(but only kind of because Courtney has claimed it). I'm going to find out your girl names, one way or another.
You never comment on my blog. I read yours, but perhaps I haven't commented on it either...
Shauna,
Don't steal Sparkle Rainbow. :)
